SDP Women Mobilise Structures Across States Ahead Of 2027

The Women Parliament of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has resolved to build strong and functional structures in every state to drive the party’s mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a strategic meeting with state women leaders in Abuja, the National Speaker of the SDP Women Parliament, Ambassador Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdullahi, said the gathering represented more than attendance.

She described it as a commitment to protect women’s right to political participation and to deliver results for the party.

Abdullahi charged the women leaders to organise, mobilise and engage at the grassroots, stressing that victory would not come by wishful thinking.

“We must bring together a strong structure in every state and ensure our voices are heard in every corner of our communities,” she said.

She urged the state women leaders to see themselves as strategic pillars of the parliament and to put aside differences that divide them.

According to her, when women stand together, party structures become stronger and political parties become mightier.

Also speaking, the National Chairman of the SDP, Professor Sadiq Gombe, represented by the South South Deputy Chairman, Senator Ugochukwu Uba, assured the women of full inclusion in the party’s programmes.

He said the 2027 election would be an election for women because no party can win without them.

Uba disclosed that the party’s forthcoming manifesto would make provision for women in appointments and governance on a 50-50 basis.

“Whatever we are going to do, women will have their place. That is the vision of SDP, to give women their rightful place in all activities and elections,” he stated.

He added that the SDP is an ideological party anchored on Chapter Two of the Nigerian Constitution, which provides for the welfare of citizens.

He said the party is mobilising every sector and that its presidential candidate is already taking the party’s policies to Nigerians.

The leadership commended the women for their sacrifice in attending the meeting at their own expense and urged them to return to their states to translate plans into measurable results.
