ASUU Shuts KASU As VC Begs For Suspension Of Strike

Kaduna State University (KASU) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has shot the university as it began a two-week warning strike over the full implementation of its demands.

The ASUU-KASU two-week strike was announced after extensive deliberations following a meeting held on Thursday by the union officials and members.

ASUU said there were many contending issues like the 25-35 per cent agreement, autonomy and promotion arrears that must be fully resolved.

However, the management of the university has appealed to ASUU to suspend the strike.
KASU said it acknowledged the concerns raised by the academic staff, just as it understood the anxiety of students and parents who naturally want to see a quick resolution and a return to normal academic activities.

A statement issued by the KASU vice chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa yesterday urged ASUU to give the ongoing dialogue every opportunity to succeed and to reconsider the suspension of the warning strike, particularly in view of the concrete steps already being taken by the state government to address the issues under discussion.
