IGP Disu, FCT CP, NUJ Rally Support For Late Journalist’s Family

The inspector-general of police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has expressed sadness over the death of former chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Patrick Osadebamwen.

Osadebamwen was reportedly found dead at his residence in Bwari on Saturday.

The IGP, who expressed concern over the sudden death, pledged support for the family and those he left behind.

Osadebamwen’s sudden death has thrown the FCT media community into mourning, with colleagues, friends and associates describing his passing as a painful loss to the journalism profession.

Following the discovery, the NUJ FCT Council contacted the police authorities for assistance in evacuating his remains. The FCT commissioner of police, CP Sanusi, promptly mobilised personnel from the Bwari Divisional Headquarters, who assisted in removing the remains from the residence and conveying them to a mortuary.

The NUJ FCT Council, in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman and Secretary, Comrade Grace Ike and Comrade Jide Oyekunle, respectively, commended the FCT Police Command for its timely intervention.

“The Council is using this medium to specially thank the FCT Commissioner of Police for the timely response when reached on Sunday,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Iniedu, who represented the inspector-general of police during a condolence visit to the deceased’s residence in Bwari, expressed shock over the journalist’s death.

Iniedu conveyed the condolences of the IGP to the bereaved family and assured them of the police leadership’s support, particularly for the children Osadebamwen left behind.

The condolence visit was part of efforts by the police leadership and members of the journalism community to identify with the family and offer support during the difficult period.

Speaking during the visit, NUJ FCT Council chairman, described Osadebamwen’s death as a painful loss to the journalism profession and commended the police authorities for their prompt intervention following the incident.

Ike also appreciated the IGP, the FCT Commissioner of Police and other stakeholders for identifying with the family and demonstrating concern at a moment of grief.

Osadebamwen was widely respected among journalists and colleagues as a committed unionist who contributed significantly to the activities and development of the NUJ FCT Council.
