2027: Tinubu Will ‘Walk Into Villa’ Without Pressure, Wike Boasts

The minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, has declared that President Bola Tinubu is on course for an easy victory in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that the emerging opposition coalition poses no serious threat to his re-election bid.

Wike, who made the remarks during a media chat monitored in Port Harcourt yesterday, said the political equation favoured Tinubu, predicting that the president would return to the Presidential Villa without facing significant electoral stress.

“This will be an election where a president will be walking to the Villa with no pressure,” Wike said.

He also defended the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State, saying the alliance was not being driven by the ambition of any individual politician but by a collective decision to support Tinubu’s administration.

“Rainbow Coalition is not about one person. What is important is that we are supporting Mr President. No one party takes everything,” he said.

Wike further dismissed the significance of the opposition parties, arguing that political parties outside government would naturally seek relevance and survival.

“Opposition parties exist because they need to exist. Ideally, there are no opposition parties,” he said.

The former Rivers State governor also questioned the electoral strength of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, both of whom have been associated with opposition realignment ahead of 2027.

He challenged the duo’s political influence, particularly the performance of their new parties in the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

“Atiku is running under ADC, and Obi under NDC. What was their performance in Osun?” Wike asked.

The minister said the Rainbow Coalition would make its plans public at the appropriate time, assuring that decisions reached by the group would be fully implemented.

The FCT minister also condemned the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) over its recent annual general conference in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, describing it as a flop.

He accused the NBA leadership of abandoning key professional issues to engage in politics.
