AEDC Announces Temporary Power Cuts Across Parts Of Abuja

Residents and businesses in parts of Abuja’s Maitama district and surrounding areas should expect temporary electricity disruptions as the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) carries out network rehabilitation works.

In a public notice dated Thursday, September 3, 2026, AEDC listed several streets, government institutions, embassies and commercial locations that will be affected by the exercise.

The areas named include Usuma Street, Gana Street, Kunene Close, Pope John Paul, Holy See, Russian Embassy, Japanese Embassy, Usuma Close, Zenith Bank, Lake Chad and Lake Alawo.

Other locations listed are Sinclair, Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Onah Crescent, Kainji Street, Kastinala, BPE, Osun Crescent, Osun Close, Kura Close, Danube Street, River Niger, Transcorp and the TCN Headquarters.

Customs Office Headquarters, NCC Headquarters, NUC Headquarters, British Council, Oakland, Maitama Heights and Maitama Extension, as well as their environs, are also among the affected areas.

AEDC said the disruption is temporary and is necessary to facilitate rehabilitation of its network. The company said the work is intended to improve network reliability and increase capacity for a more dependable electricity supply.

According to AEDC, the rehabilitation exercise is expected to run for two weeks and end on September 22, 2026.

“This is not a permanent outage,” the company said, explaining that temporary load shedding would be required while the work is being carried out.

The electricity distributor apologised to customers for the inconvenience and appealed for their patience and understanding throughout the exercise.
