‘Home Alone 2’ Will Feel Different As Four Cast Members We Lost In 2026 Are Remembered

Every December, there is a moment when the Christmas lights come on, the weather turns cooler, and Kevin McCallister somehow finds himself in trouble all over again. For millions of viewers, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is not simply a 1992 comedy. It is Christmas nostalgia, the Plaza Hotel, Central Park, the Wet Bandits, Kevin’s traps and a cast of characters that have become part of the holiday season.

When the film returns to Christmas screens this year, some of those familiar faces will be noticeably absent. 2026 has been a particularly difficult year for the Home Alone 2 family, with four cast members having died. Catherine O’Hara, who played Kevin’s mother Kate McCallister, died on January 30 at 71. Brenda Fricker, the compassionate Pigeon Lady Kevin befriends in Central Park, died on July 16 at 81. Tim Curry, who played the suspicious but hilarious Plaza Hotel concierge Mr Hector, died on August 25 at 80. Jaye P. Morgan, who also appeared in the film, died earlier this year.

Each left a different mark on the movie. O’Hara gave audiences the unforgettable mother desperately searching for her son. Fricker brought warmth and vulnerability to one of the film’s most touching friendships. Curry turned the Plaza concierge into one of the sequel’s most memorable comic characters. Their deaths mean that familiar Christmas scenes now carry another layer: remembrance.

And while there has been renewed interest in another Home Alone adventure, including reports that Macaulay Culkin has pitched a sequel to Disney, no new film has been confirmed for release in December 2026.

For now, the original remains the real Christmas gift. And when Kevin returns to New York this holiday season, fans will laugh at the traps, sing along with the memories and perhaps pause for a moment when those four familiar faces appear.
