PDP Mobilises Grassroots Support For Natasha’s Re-election

Supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Okehi local government area of Kogi State have held a solidarity road walk to mobilise the grassroots for the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The procession attracted party loyalists, youths, women and other stakeholders, who emphasised on the need to ensure the re-election of Senator Natasha Hadiza Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The lawmaker represents Kogi Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
The supporters expressed confidence in Akpoti-Uduaghan’s performance and commitment to her constituents, describing her first term as a basis for seeking continuity in the Senate.

During the road walk held yesterday, a PDP supporter, Bashir Haroon, said the turnout demonstrated what he described as strong grassroots confidence in the senator and the party.

Haroon said the participants were making a statement about the type of representation they wanted for the people of Okehi and Kogi Central.

“Okehi is standing firm with the PDP and with Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. We have seen her commitment, we have seen her courage, and we have seen the way she has continued to identify with the people,” he said.

He urged other communities across Kogi Central to remain united and ensure that the support expressed during the mobilisation translates into votes at the polls.

Also speaking, the Kogi Central PDP 2027 Campaign Director-General, Alhaji Salami Etudaiye, described the mobilisation as a reflection of what he called the growing strength of the PDP across the senatorial district.

Etudaiye said Akpoti-Uduaghan’s first tenure had provided constituents with an opportunity to assess her capacity, adding that the 2027 election should be an opportunity to consolidate what he described as progress already recorded.

“The people of Kogi Central have a choice to make, and that choice should be based on performance, capacity, courage and the ability to represent the collective interest of the people. Senator Natasha has demonstrated these qualities in her first tenure,” Etudaiye said.

He argued that a second term would enable the senator to deepen legislative representation, expand constituency-focused interventions and pursue additional programmes aimed at improving the socio-economic wellbeing of the people.

Supporters of Akpoti-Uduaghan have based their campaign for a second term largely on continuity, arguing that her experience in the National Assembly provides a platform for stronger legislative advocacy and constituency engagement.

They cited human capital development, economic empowerment, education, infrastructure, youth development and improved representation among the areas they believe require further attention.

The campaign leadership said a second-term agenda would focus on consolidating existing initiatives while expanding interventions across the five local government areas in Kogi Central — Adavi, Ajaokuta, Okehi, Okene and Ogori-Magongo.

According to Etudaiye, the proposed priorities include stronger advocacy for infrastructure development, opportunities for youths, support for women and small businesses, education and skills acquisition, healthcare interventions and projects designed to create sustainable economic opportunities.

He urged voters to consider what he described as the long-term interests of the senatorial district when making their choices in 2027.

“A second tenure is not simply about returning an individual to office. It is about giving the people an opportunity to consolidate representation, experience and programmes that can have lasting impact. We are calling on our people across Kogi Central to unite behind Senator Natasha and all the PDP candidates,” he said.

The Okehi mobilisation comes as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and political actors expected to deepen grassroots engagements across Kogi State.

The PDP campaign leadership appealed to residents of Adavi, Ajaokuta, Okehi, Okene, and Ogori-Magongo to maintain unity and engage peacefully throughout the campaign season.
