Zamfara Residents Hail Troops For Neutralising Bandits

Residents of Shinkafi local government area of Zamfara State have lauded the troops of Sector 2, “Operation Fansan Yamma”, for sustaining the onslaught against bandits in the area.

A rice farmer in the area, Ahmed Rufai, told LEADERSHIP yesterdat that, “for the past two weeks we have enjoyed relative peace because the soldiers have sustained their aggression against the bandits.
A prominent lead in Shinkafi town, who spoke on anonymity, claimed that the bandits’ operational power had been degraded by the military.

He said, “What is troubling us now is the issue of some informants around us.”

Also, a ranking military officer, who does not want his name in print because only the media officer is permitted to speak with the press, explained that “Operation Fansan Yamma” troops encountered terrorists on Tuesday during a counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operation in Shinkafi council.

He said the troops, deployed around Galadi in Sokoto State, sighted bandits on motorcycles attempting to cross a road in the Shinkafi area.

The troops engaged the suspects with fire, killing one of the terrorists, while others reportedly fled the scene.

Upon inspection of the deceased, the troops discovered that he wore a woodland camouflage vest underneath his traditional kaftan, an indication of his apparent affiliation with the armed group.

Further exploitation of the suspect’s mobile phone reportedly revealed photographs of him wearing a camouflage vest and brandishing a PKT machine gun.

The troops recovered four mobile phones and the sum of N30,350 from the deceased suspect.

The operation is part of ongoing efforts by security forces under Operation FANSAN YAMMA to disrupt terrorist and bandit activities across the North-West.
