The remains of former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bamanga Tukur, were on Saturday flown from Abuja to his home state of Adamawa for burial, leaving his Abuja residence empty and quiet.
Tukur died on Saturday, 12 September 2026, according to a statement issued by his family and signed by his son, Awwal D. Tukur.
When LEADERSHIP Sunday visited the palatial residence on Ademola Adetokunbo Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja, later that day, the house was empty.
The atmosphere reflected the departure of the head of the household, whose residence was usually a hive of activity because of his status as a veteran political leader and business mogul.
A visibly grief-stricken civilian security operative manning the empty gate managed to tell our correspondent in pidgin English: “They don carry Baba go Adamawa since 1 pm.”
He declined to answer further questions and prevented our correspondent from taking photographs or recording videos, saying in heavily accented English mixed with Hausa: “Oga, take your time. If you want anything, go to Adamawa, shikina!”
In its statement, the family described the former PDP chairman as its “beloved father and patriarch,” saying he lived a life of service to his family, community, Adamawa State, and Nigeria.
“It is with profound sadness and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah that the family announces the passing of our beloved father and patriarch, Alhaji Bamanga Mohammed Tukur, who returned to his Creator today, 12 September 2026,” the son said.
The family expressed appreciation for the prayers, condolences and support it had received following his death.
It said details of the Janazah, or funeral prayer, and other burial arrangements would be communicated later.
“We pray that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings, accepts his good deeds and grants him Aljannatul Firdaus,” he stated.
