Civil Servants’ Association Orders Nationwide Shutdown Of Unity Schools From Today

The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), Federal Ministry of Education Headquarters Chapter, has directed the immediate closure of all federal unity colleges and the Ministry of Education’s offices nationwide, effective Monday, 14 September 2026.

The directive, contained in an 11 September 2026 memo signed by the chapter Chairman, Comrade Sampson Chigozie Ngadi, followed a union congress at which members resolved to oppose the proposed sale of Unity Schools.

The memo, addressed to all ASCSN unit chairmen in federal unity colleges, instructed them to ensure that all colleges and Ministry of Education offices remained closed until further notice.

The union said the directive was necessary to enforce the resolutions reached at its congress, insisting that its position on the Unity Schools would not be abandoned despite alleged threats and intimidation of workers.

It stated that such threats would not deter the union from doing what is right, adding that members would not be intimidated by the Minister of Education.

The union further said issues concerning the association affected all its members and called on workers to remain resolute in defending the Unity Schools and their interests.

“All unit chairmen are to ensure full compliance and immediate implementation of this directive in their respective colleges and to keep the Union Secretariat informed of the situation,” the memo stated.
The development is expected to disrupt activities in federal unity colleges and Ministry of Education offices across the country from Monday.

The ASCSN chapter ended the directive with a call for solidarity among members as the dispute over the status and proposed sale of the Unity Schools continues.
