2027: Haske Vows To Tackle Insecurity, Infrastructure Deficit In Southern Borno

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Askira/Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency of Borno State, Kudla Satumari Haske, has pledged to prioritise security, infrastructure, agriculture and economic opportunities if elected to the House of Representatives in 2027.

Haske made the pledge on Thursday while declaring his intention to contest the federal constituency, where he said insecurity, poor infrastructure and economic challenges had continued to affect residents.

He said his decision to seek the mandate was driven by the needs of farmers, youths, women and other residents across Askira/Uba and Hawul.

According to him, the people of the constituency deserve representation that prioritises their security, welfare and economic wellbeing

“We must end fear, isolation and economic neglect,” Haske said.

He said he would advocate stronger security measures, including community policing and improved security infrastructure, to enable farmers to return to their farmlands and restore economic activities in affected communities.

“We will prioritise the protection of our people as our highest calling. I will champion the strengthening of community policing, advocate for increased security infrastructure, and ensure that our farmers can return to their lands without fear, and our families can sleep in peace,” he said.

Haske also identified poor rural roads as a major challenge, saying the condition of roads had affected the movement of people and farm produce.

He pledged to advocate the construction and rehabilitation of rural roads to improve connectivity between communities and markets.

“We will break the chains of isolation,” he said.

On agriculture, the PDP candidate promised to pursue measures that would improve farmers’ access to modern equipment, affordable credit and markets.

He also said local businesses and entrepreneurs would require support to expand economic opportunities and create jobs within the constituency.

Haske listed education and skills development among his priorities, promising to advocate improved educational infrastructure, better teacher welfare and programmes aimed at equipping young people with relevant skills.

He also pledged to push for improved access to healthcare, particularly for residents facing difficulties meeting the cost of medical treatment.

He said his agenda would focus on six areas: security and peace, agriculture and economic empowerment, rural roads and infrastructure, youth education and skills, healthcare and effective representation.

Haske said he would seek to represent the people as a servant rather than a master.

“I seek to be a humble servant, not a master,” he said.

He also called for unity among the people of Askira/Uba and Hawul, saying division could undermine efforts to attract development to the constituency.

“We will tear down the walls of tribalism and partisanship to build a house of common purpose,” he said.

The candidate said he would seek to remain accessible and accountable to constituents if elected, adding that he would use his position in the National Assembly to attract development projects and partnerships to the constituency.

“My vision is not just for a term, but for a generational shift,” he said.

Earlier, some stakeholders in Southern Borno who spoke during a gathering following Haske’s declaration called for what they described as a new political strategy and alignment ahead of the 2027 elections.

A political analyst, Ahmed Baba, who attended the gathering, said Haske’s entry into the race had generated political interest in the region.

He said political actors in the area would need to take account of the influence of various political movements as the 2027 elections approach.

Also speaking, a representative of the Southern Borno Fixers, Samson Bata, said the group was engaging with the Haske movement as part of its political activities in the region.

The stakeholders’ comments come against the backdrop of preparations by political parties and aspirants for the 2027 general elections.
