Halima Dangote Says She And Her Sisters Prefer To Let Their Work Speak

Halima Dangote has spoken about the low-profile lifestyle she shares with her sisters, Fatima and Mariya, saying the three have never been particularly interested in flaunting their wealth or family background.

Speaking during a Bloomberg interview, Halima said the sisters are not “spoilt” and tend to remain reserved even when they meet people from similar backgrounds, including the children of their father’s friends.

“We’re not spoilt,” she said, explaining that the sisters generally do not feel the need to tell people who they are or draw attention to what they own.

Halima said being less recognisable had once made life easier for them, but that has changed as their public profiles have grown.

“Now people recognise us, but it was easier when we were not recognised,” she said, adding that she and her sisters would rather allow their achievements to speak for themselves.

She also contrasted their approach with that of people who are more comfortable with social media, public attention, and openly sharing details of their lives.

“Some people are really comfortable with social media, with being known, with being expressive. I don’t think we are,” she said.

According to Halima, none of the three sisters is particularly inclined to publicise their possessions, activities or achievements.

“All three of us, we’re not expressive of what we have or what we own or what we’re doing,” she said.

Instead, she pointed to measurable business results as the sisters’ preferred way of demonstrating their progress.

“The results are just the ones speaking for themselves: the sales of this business, the profit of this, our growth,” Halima said.

She also referred to the sisters holding key positions and said their performance could be assessed through the figures associated with the businesses they are involved in.

“We are all in those key positions, and I mean, numbers don’t lie. So that’s it,” she added.

Halima’s comments offer an insight into how she and her sisters approach public attention despite being members of one of Nigeria’s most prominent business families. Rather than making their personal wealth or online visibility the focus, she said they prefer their professional results to speak for them.
