APC Crisis In Ogun Worsens As Hunye Rejects Primary, Demands Proof Of Suspension

The unresolved internal crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State is worsening tensions within the party as Hon Abayomi Semako Hunye has again rejected the process that produced Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election in the state.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, the media adviser, Femi Oyewale, questioned the alleged suspension of Hunye from the APC, his participation in the party’s nomination process and the May 21 governorship primary, in which Adeola was declared the winner.

The Hunye Support Group said the APC claimed he was suspended on April 7, 2026, over a petition said to have originated from a parallel ward in Tube, Ipokia local government area, saying he was never served with any suspension letter before obtaining the party’s nomination forms on April 28.

Hunye said he paid N50 million for the forms and was subsequently allowed to participate in the screening process. He therefore demanded that the party explain how he could have proceeded through the nomination process if his suspension was valid and already in effect.

“If the APC maintains that I was validly suspended on April 7, then the relevant documents should be produced and the complete chronology established,” he said.

Questioning the primary result of May 21, where Adeola was declared winner, while Hunye was recorded as receiving zero votes. Hunye said, “I am not asking the media to declare the result fraudulent, but want the transparency and credibility of the process examined.”

He questioned the reported result and asked the APC to produce accreditation records, result sheets, agents’ documents and collation records.

“My campaign organisation had information that some party loyalists voted for me, and some of them were allegedly harassed or injured during the process.

“I have pursued the party’s internal appeal process by writing to the relevant appeal committee and the party chairman, and I have received no substantive response and that is why I have approached the Federal High Court in Abuja.”

Hunye also described the court action as a lawful effort to seek clarification, rather than an attempt to undermine the APC.

The politician also rejected the APC’s allegation that he was impersonating the party’s recognised governorship candidate.

The APC reportedly petitioned the Inspector-General of Police on August 24, alleging impersonation and conduct capable of causing a breach of public peace.

Hunye said he had never declared himself the APC’s recognised candidate. Instead, he said, he was challenging the process through which the candidate emerged.

“There is a fundamental difference between saying, ‘I am the recognised candidate,’ and saying, ‘I am challenging the process through which the candidate was produced,’” he said.

He also denied the allegation being circulated that the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Ladi Adebutu, is sponsoring him to undermine the chances of a Yewa person becoming the next governor of Ogun State.

“The allegation is false. I have never entered into any arrangement with Hon Ladi Adebutu to pursue my political ambition, nor has anybody sponsored me to attack Yewa interests or to work against the emergence of a Yewa governor.

“My political agenda has been developed over the past five years around my vision for good governance, development and a better Ogun State.”
