The Bauchi State government and Arewa Investment and Management Limited have unveiled plans to establish electric tricycle (Keke NAPEP) charging stations as part of efforts to modernise the state’s transportation system.
The Bauchi State deputy governor, Rt Hon Mohammad Auwal Jatau, disclosed this during a meeting with representatives of Arewa Investment and Management Limited at the Government House, Bauchi.
Jatau directed relevant government agencies to collaborate with the company to ensure the effective implementation of the project.
He said the initiative was aimed at expanding economic opportunities, creating employment and positioning Bauchi State as a regional hub for modern Keke NAPEP operations.
According to him, the state government and Arewa Investment and Management Limited have developed modalities for establishing charging infrastructure to support electric tricycles, motorcycles and other new-energy vehicles.
He said the project would utilise the former Steyr Automotive Assembly Plant as part of efforts to revive dormant industrial assets and attract productive investments to the state.
The deputy governor reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to reviving abandoned and underutilised industrial facilities to promote investment, reduce poverty and stimulate economic development.
“The administration of His Excellency, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, is open to credible and viable investments that align with its development priorities.
“Therefore, the government will always provide the necessary institutional support within the established laws and procedures,” he said.
Also, the managing director of Arewa Investment and Management Limited, Alhaji Kabiru Umar, said the company was committed to providing the necessary support in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the state government.
Umar said the firm would work towards the successful establishment of the electric tricycle charging stations and ensure an effective distribution process.
