NiMet Predicts Nationwide Thunderstorms Rain Monday To Wednesday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast nationwide thunderstorms and heavy rainfall from Monday through Wednesday, warning that strong winds may precede the rains in several regions.

According to its weather outlook released in Abuja, morning thunderstorms and light rain are expected on Monday in parts of Taraba, Kebbi, and Niger states, while cloudy skies will cover the southern region with isolated showers in Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River. Moderate rains and scattered thunderstorms will spread across the North-East, Kaduna, the North-Central, and southern states later in the afternoon and evening.

For Tuesday, the agency predicted thunderstorms and light-to-moderate rain across most northern states, parts of the North-Central region including the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, and Plateau and areas within the southern region. Similar weather patterns with moderate rainfall will persist across the country through Wednesday.

NiMet advised the public to secure loose objects, avoid driving during heavy rainfall, stay away from tall trees, and disconnect electrical appliances during thunderstorms. It also urged airline operators to obtain site specific weather reports for operational planning.
