Viral Video Triggers Arrest, Ouster Of Businessman Over Death Threats To Women

A viral video showing Zimbabwean businessman Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzinganyama threatening to kill a group of women at a Sandton restaurant has led to his arrest and removal from his corporate positions.

The footage, which circulated widely across social media over the weekend, captured Mudzinganyama verbally assaulting and making death threats to the women at Vlamo restaurant on Friday, September 18, 2026, after they rejected his advances.

Following the public outrage sparked by the video, the board of Moriel Infrastructure Group removed Mudzinganyama from his positions as director and executive chairman, severing all business ties with him.

South African police arrested Mudzinganyama on Sunday, September 20. He was subsequently released on a warning ahead of his scheduled court appearance on October 1, where he faces criminal charges of intimidation.

Authorities have also launched investigations into his immigration status, firearm licensing, and government road contracts associated with his firm, while Mudzinganyama has issued a public apology admitting his conduct was unacceptable.
