Mbamnga Crisis: Agency Sends Relief, As Govt Plans Refugees’ Return From Cameroon

The Taraba State government has commenced the distribution of relief materials to victims of the recent communal crisis in Mbamnga and neighbouring communities in Sardauna local government area of the state.
The intervention followed the destruction of houses, properties and the loss of lives during the unrest that affected Mbara, Geroji and other suburbs of Mbamnga ward.

The relief materials which were presented by the executive secretary of TSEMA, Dr Audu Echuseh, was received by the chairman of Sardauna local government, Hon Mohammed Umar, for onward distribution to the victims.

Speaking during the presentation, Dr Audu conveyed the sympathy of the state government to the affected communities and urged community representatives to ensure that the materials reached the victims for whom they were provided.

She said, the intervention was part of government’s efforts to cushion the impact of the crisis on displaced residents and to assist affected communities in recovering from the destruction.

The chairman of Sardauna local government, Hon Mohammed Umar commended the state government, TSEMA and other stakeholders for the prompt intervention.

The council chairman, assured the residents that his administration would continue to work towards restoring peace and preventing further unrest in the locality.

He also reaffirmed the council’s commitment to promoting unity among communities in Sardauna and to ensure adequate measures were taken to forestall a recurrence of violence.

Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing by the state government and other stakeholders to facilitate the safe return of residents who fled to neighbouring Cameroon following the crisis.

The TSEMA Boss said, it would continue to provide timely humanitarian assistance to victims of disasters and conflicts while supporting ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability on the Mambilla Plateau.
