Troops Bust Terrorist Couriers, Rescue Victims In Katsina

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have arrested three terrorist logistics couriers and rescued 14 kidnap victims in separate operations in Faskari local government area of Katsina State.

The operations, carried out by troops of Sector 2, dealt a major blow to terrorist activities in the North-West theatre.

A statement issued yesterday by the media information officer, JTF NW OPFY, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, said the troops on September 24, 2026, intercepted three suspects travelling on a motorcycle in Faskari LGA.

Preliminary interrogation, according to the statement, revealed that the suspects were conveying the sum of N2.7 million, suspected to be ransom money, and three mobile phones for onward transfer to a terrorist kingpin through intermediaries in the area.

“The suspects and the recovered items are in military custody for further investigation,” the statement said.
Similarly, on September 25, 2026, troops of Sector 2, acting on credible intelligence on the movement of terrorists in the same Faskari LGA, established an ambush position and engaged the terrorists, forcing them to flee in disarray.

The statement added that exploitation of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, 30 rounds of ammunition and one motorcycle.

In a related development on the same day, troops conducting routine patrol rescued 14 kidnapped victims comprising 12 males and two females abducted from Anguwan Miko and Tafoki villages in Faskari LGA.

The victims, the Army said, were abandoned by the terrorists upon sighting the advancing troops and were subsequently handed over to the Faskari local government authorities for necessary action.

The Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance, courage and prompt response and urged members of the public to continue to provide timely and credible information to security agencies on suspicious movements and activities within their communities.
