Fani-Kayode Demands Justice Over Killing Of Nigerians In South Africa

Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa, Femi Fani-Kayode, has called on the South African authorities to investigate the killing of Nigerians in the country and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

Fani-Kayode made the call in a statement posted on his X handle, following the deaths of three Nigerian citizens in separate incidents in South Africa in September.

According to the former Minister of Aviation, the three Nigerians were killed on September 18, 20 and 21 respectively.

He said the latest incidents brought the number of Nigerians killed in South Africa in 2026 to 12, while 112 Nigerians had been killed in the country since 2022.

Fani-Kayode further alleged that 32 of the victims since 2022 were killed by members of the South African security forces.

He said no one had been brought to justice or convicted over any of the killings, and urged the South African government to take steps to protect Nigerians living in the country.

“It has been brought to my attention by the Nigerian Consul in Johannesburg that three more Nigerians have been murdered in three separate incidents in South Africa in the space of four days this month alone,” he said.

The High Commissioner condemned the killings and called for those responsible to face the law.

“I condemn these killings and once again appeal to the South African authorities to bring those responsible for them to justice and to protect our people,” he said.

Fani-Kayode also expressed condolences over the deaths, praying for the souls of the victims to rest in peace.

The latest development comes amid longstanding concerns over attacks and violence involving Nigerians and other foreign nationals in South Africa.
