The Orshi family of Mbatiev, Mbapen, Tombu, Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State, has announced the death of Pastor Peter Tyoakaa Orshi, who died at the age of 60.
Peter, son of the late Orchiviri Dr. James Akperan Orshi, the third Tor Tiv, died on Thursday, 24 September 2026, after a brief illness.
The family, in a statement signed by Barrister David Demnomgu Orshi, announced his death with deep sorrow and expressed “total submission to the will of God Almighty.”
The deceased was described by the family as a beloved son, husband, father and uncle who was widely loved by relatives, friends and associates.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs Nancy Nguveren Orshi, a Deputy Director with Radio Benue and a National Trustee of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), six children, in-laws and other members of the family.
According to the family, arrangements have been finalised for the burial, with activities scheduled in Makurdi and Tse-Kur Baka, Benue State.
The burial programme will commence on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, with a service of songs at the Household of Faith International Christian Centre, opposite Pardopas Secondary School, Makurdi.
The service is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
On Thursday, 8 October 2026, the body will depart Bishop Murray Medical Centre, Makurdi, at 1:00 p.m. en route to Tse-Kur Baka, where another wake will be held.
The final burial ceremony will take place on Friday, 9 October 2026, following a church service scheduled to commence at 8:00 a.m.
The family called on relatives, friends, colleagues and well-wishers to join them in mourning and celebrating the life of the deceased.
It also expressed appreciation to those who had supported the family following the death and urged them to continue to remember the bereaved family in their prayers.
