Tinubu Seeks Senate Confirmation of Ndanusa, Seven FRC Board Nominees, Bulka

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sought the confirmation of the Senate for the nomination of Engineer Sani Ndanusa as a non-career Ambassador-Designate, alongside seven nominees for appointment to the Board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC).

The President also requested the confirmation of Wakil Bulka as a member of the Federal Civil Service Commission representing Bauchi, Borno and Yobe states.

The requests were contained in separate presidential correspondences addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and read on the floor of the Senate.

In the correspondence seeking Ndanusa’s confirmation, Tinubu cited Section 171, subsections 2(c) and 4 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, as the basis for the nomination.

The President also attached Ndanusa’s curriculum vitae for the consideration of the Senate and urged lawmakers to consider and confirm the nomination expeditiously.

Following the presentation of the correspondence, the Senate referred Ndanusa’s nomination to the Committee on Foreign Affairs for screening and further consideration.

The committee was given two weeks to consider the nomination and report back to the Senate.

In a separate communication, Tinubu requested the confirmation of seven nominees as Chairman and members of the Board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, in accordance with Section 5(3) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007.

The nominees are Dr. Abdullahi Maikano Saidu, Chairman; Muhammad Asma’u, Member; Muhammad Aliyu Makama, Member; Suleiman Gidado, Ph.D., Member; Hon. Louis Ndukwe, Member; Amechi Ugwele, Member; and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola, Member.

The Senate referred the FRC nomination to the Committee on Finance for consideration and directed it to report back to the chamber within two weeks.

Tinubu urged the Senate to consider and confirm the nominees in its usual expeditious manner.

Meanwhile, the President’s request for the confirmation of Wakil Bulka as a member of the Federal Civil Service Commission was referred to the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service.

The committee was also given two weeks to consider the nomination and report back to the chamber.

The nominations come as the administration moves to fill key positions in Nigeria’s diplomatic, fiscal oversight and public service institutions.

The nominees will be subject to the Senate’s screening and confirmation processes before their appointments can be finalised.
