Kano Approves N144bn For Roads, Others

The Kano State Government has approved N144.01bn for the execution of road, healthcare, education and other projects across the state.

The approval was given at the 41st State Executive Council meeting held at the Malam Aminu Kano House, Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.

The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
The Ministry of Works received the largest allocation of N84.98bn for the construction and rehabilitation of roads, public buildings and other infrastructure.

Among the major projects approved were the reconstruction of the Rawul-Gani-Sitti-Masu-Gomo Road in Sumaila Local Government Area for N16.69bn and the construction of the Zaria Road-Gurjiya-Yankatsari-Rijiyar Gwangwan Road for N8.65bn.

The council also approved N8.88bn for additional works on the ongoing rehabilitation of the RMK Flyover-Obasanjo Flyover-Ibrahim Road-Mazugal Junction-Katsina Road corridor, including the reconstruction and dualisation of Hajj Camp Road.

It approved N6.80bn for the review of the contract for the construction of Suleiman Crescent and Lamido Crescent in Nassarawa GRA, while N6.04bn was approved for the completion of the Dawakin Kudu-Lahadin Makole Road.

The education sector received N14.28bn, including N6.12bn as counterpart funding for the Universal Basic Education Commission matching grant.

Another N2.43bn was approved to settle payments owed foodstuff suppliers to boarding schools for the third term of the 2025/2026 academic session.

For the health sector, the council approved N2.61bn for the rehabilitation and upgrading of healthcare facilities across the state.

The approvals included N521.95m to upgrade Kibiya Primary Healthcare Centre to a general hospital and N679.38m for the upgrade of Albasu Primary Healthcare Centre to a general hospital.

The council further approved N11.06bn for land and physical planning, N2.41bn for water resources and environmental projects and N1.25bn for power and renewable energy.

Meanwhile, the council approved a N1.201tn 2026 supplementary budget and directed that it be transmitted to the state House of Assembly for consideration and approval.

It also approved a proposed public-private partnership for the Kano Energy and SME Industrial Park at the AKK Industrial Layout, Tamburawa, and the hosting of the 2026 Kano Art and Cultural Festival.

Waiya said the council also directed the Ministry of Works to prepare a detailed Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation for the rehabilitation of the Eastern Bypass-Tsamiya Babba-Larabawar Abasawa-Nera Roundabout road.
