Nasarawa At 30: Sule Urges Politics Without Bitterness, Says Democracy Not War

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has asked politicians and the people of the state to sustain peace and unity.

Sule cautioned against divisive rhetoric as elections approach.

“Elections are coming very soon. I know we cannot all be on the same page, but let us disagree with respect. Let us play democracy the way it’s supposed to be. It is not a matter of life and death,” he said.

He said peace and unity remain the bedrock of development as the state marks 30 years of its creation.
Sule spoke yesterday in Lafia during the Nasarawa Carnival, organised as part of the activities marking the state’s 30th anniversary.

The governor continued, “We can disagree to agree, and we can agree to disagree.

“Do not listen to anyone who is interested in causing disagreement among us when it comes to politics. Power comes only from God Almighty,” he said.

The governor said Nasarawa, created from Plateau State in 1996, has witnessed a remarkable transformation and has become an investment destination.

He said the state is blessed with all seven critical minerals found in Nigeria and has attracted investors who are not only mining but also processing the minerals in the state, including the largest lithium processing plant in Africa.

“All these are happening because of the way we live together as a people. Most investors who are looking at Nasarawa will only will continue to look for Nasarawa of peace,” he said.

Sule commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for economic reforms that enable states to generate electricity, revenue and security, and disclosed that Nasarawa has received the bill on state police and will support its creation.

He said other activities lined up for the anniversary include a symposium on the creation of the state and its future development, as well as a novelty football match between Nasarawa and Plateau States.

The governor said his administration has, since 2019, improved peace, workers’ welfare, healthcare, and education, and expressed satisfaction with the vocational and technical institute’s participation in the carnival.

“If somebody was here 30 years ago and comes to Lafia today, the person will not recognise this as the same Lafia. This is the work of unity. This is the work of leadership,” he added.
