Fire Razes 21 Shops At Kugbo Furniture Market, Abuja

A fire outbreak at the Kugbo Furniture Market in Abuja on Friday destroyed or affected 21 shops and a vehicle, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said.

The incident occurred at about 11:15am, prompting NEMA’s Abuja Operations Office (AOO) Emergency Response and Ambulance Bay (ERAB) to activate relevant emergency response agencies, including the Federal Fire Service.

NEMA responders who arrived at the scene assisted with crowd control and supported firefighters in containing the blaze and preventing it from spreading to other parts of the market.

The agency said the fire was eventually dampened to prevent possible secondary outbreaks.

No casualty was recorded in the incident, while some valuable items were recovered from the affected shops.

Scenes from the burnt shops and rescue operations

According to NEMA, emergency operations at the scene ended at about 1:40pm.

The agency said it would continue to support affected communities and coordinate emergency response operations with relevant stakeholders.I would use “Fire Razes 21 Shops At Kugbo Furniture Market, Abuja” rather than “21 Shops Burns,” which is grammatically incorrect.
