Lawyers have condemned the usage of public office and public funds for the campaign of the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
According to them, the act is a breach of public service rules.
They said the president’s appointees are free to support him but not with public funds.
Some government agencies heads are said to be forming a coalition for Tinubu’s re-election.
Constitutional lawyer, Ume Ukpo, said anti-graft agencies should begin to work with eagles eyes to monitor movement of funds during this political period.
According g to him, there is no better time to monitor public funds than now.
He agreed that public officials who are appointees of the president are free to openly support the President but not with public funds.
He said, “There is no better time to monitor public funds than now. President Tinubu’s appointees are free to support him but not with public funds. The anti-graft agency should scrutinize spendings by public government offices.
“The time to move money for purposes other than what it is meant for is now, therefore, we cannot afford to allow pu lic funds to be used for politics.”
Professor of Law, Ajida Bello, called on the president to call his appointees to order, if he actually meant well for the country.
He said already, the country’s economy is bleeding and going further to deep hands into the nation’s treasury to spend money on personal gains will further deepens the woes of the country.
“We cannot afford to use the money meant for schools, roads, hospitals and other infrastructural amenities on politics, it will be counter-productive.
“The president should call his appointees to other on election campaign funds so that they don’t further do damage to the system”, he said.
