Former minister of transportation and ADC vice presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has linked the death of his mother to the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Amaechi made the claim on Friday during an interview on Channels Television, while discussing the impact of the Federal Government’s economic reforms and the hardship faced by Nigerians.
The former minister was asked by the interviewer whether Tinubu’s policies were responsible for the death of his mother.
Amaechi responded: “Of course, before Tinubu, my mother was healthy.”
The former Rivers State governor who subsequently questioned whether he had a personal responsibility to provide adequate care for his mother, pushed back, asking whether he had no choice, given the number of people he said he was financially supporting.
“Do I have a choice? Do you know how many people I’m taking care of?” he asked.
Amaechi’s mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Amaechi, died in July 2026 at the age of 89.
She was buried on September 5, 2026, in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The former governor’s comments came as he criticised the economic policies of the Tinubu administration, particularly their impact on the cost of living.
Amaechi also challenged the Federal Government to name a major project completed under the present administration, comparing its record with that of the Muhammadu Buhari administration.
He cited the Abuja-Kaduna railway as an example of a major project completed under Buhari and challenged the Tinubu administration to identify a similar project.
Amaechi further criticised the government’s handling of the economy and alleged that Nigerians were experiencing greater hardship under the present administration.
The former governor is going to run a joint ticket with Atiku Abubakar on the platform of African Democratic Cingress, ADC in the 2027 Poll.
