Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Aminu Shehu Uba Sharada, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu, in his capacity as national leader of the party, and Senator Abdulaziz Yari, Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), to urgently bring party leaders and stakeholders in the state together to resolve their differences.
Sharada, an aide to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu representing Abia North, made the appeal in a personally signed statement issued on Sunday and titled, “Kano APC: Time for Unity, Dialogue and Responsible Leadership.”
He expressed concern over what he described as disagreements and visible divisions among APC stakeholders in Kano, warning that failure to address the issues ahead of the 2027 elections could have wider consequences for the party.
Sharada also cautioned against giving the impression to the President that the party was united in the state when, according to him, there were unresolved concerns among key stakeholders.
“Let me be frank: anyone giving the impression that everything is fine within the Kano APC is not giving the President the full picture,” he said.
“There are disagreements and visible concerns among party leaders and stakeholders, and if they are not addressed early, they could have wider consequences for the party.”
He said the proximity of the 2027 elections made it necessary for the party’s national leadership to begin consultations and reconciliation with relevant stakeholders in Kano.
“This is not the time to take sides or deepen existing divisions. It is time for consultation, reconciliation and genuine political engagement,” Sharada said.
According to him, all party leaders and stakeholders have a responsibility to rebuild trust and bring the various interests within the party together.
“Every leader and stakeholder has a role to play in bringing the various interests together and rebuilding confidence within the party,” he said.
Sharada said the APC still had a broad base of committed members and stakeholders in Kano, but needed inclusive leadership capable of listening to competing concerns and establishing a common direction.
“The APC in Kano has a broad base of committed members and stakeholders. What is needed now is leadership that can bring everyone to the table, listen to different concerns and establish a common direction,” he said.
He therefore appealed to the party’s national and state leadership to act quickly to address the concerns and prevent further divisions.
“I therefore appeal to our leaders at both the national and state levels to act swiftly,” Sharada added.
