Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Katsina State to flag off the second phase of the Community Investment Fund under the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up (NFWP-SU) and commission major infrastructure projects.
Shettima’s arrival was announced by his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, in a post on X on Sunday.
According to Nkwocha, the Vice President’s programme will begin at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium, where he is expected to flag off the Community Investment Fund II.
The $540 million programme, financed by the World Bank and the Federal Government, is designed to expand economic opportunities for women, strengthen women-led community groups and improve access to finance, particularly for women in rural and underserved communities.
The second phase builds on the Nigeria for Women Project, which was implemented between 2018 and 2024, with a focus on expanding its reach and deepening its impact across the country.
The initiative is expected to provide women with access to productive resources, financial services, skills and market opportunities, with the broader objective of reducing poverty and strengthening the economic resilience of households and communities.
During the visit, Shettima is also expected to launch 30 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) hybrid buses and 200 electric tricycles.
The initiative is expected to support cleaner and more affordable public transportation while reducing dependence on conventional fossil-fuel-powered vehicles.
The Vice President will also commission several completed road projects in Katsina metropolis, including the 4.8-kilometre dualised Kofar Sauri–Central Mosque Roundabout Road and the 2.4-kilometre Central Police Station Junction–Kofar Kaura Underpass Road.
He is further expected to commission the newly constructed four-kilometre Filin Polo–Ring Road.
The projects are expected to improve connectivity, ease traffic flow and enhance urban mobility within the state capital.
Shettima is also scheduled to visit the Katsina State Government House, where he is expected to receive new members into the All Progressives Congress (APC).
