Kano Police Invite Politician Over Alleged Firearm Display

The Kano State Police Command has invited state house of assembly aspirant, Hon. Aminu Abdullahi Warkal for questioning over an alleged unlawful display of a firearm in a video circulating on social media.

The Command said its officers came across the video during routine cyber patrol, adding that Warkal was seen openly displaying what appeared to be a pump-action rifle at a political gathering.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command said the alleged display, if established, could constitute a violation of the Firearms Act and pose a threat to public peace.

“On the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, SFIPMA, MNIM, MNIPS, MASIS, the said Hon. Aminu Abdullahi Warkal was invited to the Command Headquarters, Bompai, Kano. He is currently at the Command’s State Intelligence Department (SID) and investigation is in progress.” The statement said.

The Command warned that it would not tolerate acts of lawlessness, thuggery or the display of weapons capable of threatening public peace, regardless of the status of those involved.

The police also urged political actors, their supporters and other stakeholders to conduct their activities peacefully and comply with the Electoral Act, Firearms Act and other applicable laws.
