We Left APC Over Insecurity–9 Suspended Zamfara Lawmakers

Nine suspended members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) over alleged insecurity and lack of concern for the welfare of the people.

The affected lawmakers are Hon. Aliyu Ango Kagara of Talata Mafara South, Hon. Muktar Nasir (Jikan Shehu) of Kaura Namoda North, Hon. Faruk Dosara Musa of Maradun I, and Hon. Basiru Bello of Bungudu West.

Others are Hon. Bashir A. Masama of Bukkuyum North, Hon. Ibrahim T. Tukur of Bakura, Hon. Nasiru Abdullahi of Maru North, Hon. Yusuf Muhammad Anka of Anka, and Rt. Hon. Bashar Aliyu of Gummi I.

Speaking on behalf of the lawmakers on Sunday, Hon. Kagara said their disagreement with Governor Dauda Lawal was connected to the worsening security situation in the state.

He said efforts to raise concerns about insecurity on the floor of the House did not go down well with the executive, which led to their suspension.

“Because of the lack of security and lack of concern for the people of Zamfara, we raised the issue in the House, which did not go down well with the Governor. That was why we had issues with him, which led to our suspension,” Kagara said.

The lawmaker further alleged that after joining the APC, some party leaders conspired against them and denied them a fair hearing, prompting their decision to dump the party.

When contacted for a balanced report, the spokesman for the Zamfara State Governor, Suleiman Bala Idris, did not respond to calls as of press time.
