Zamfara State House of Assembly has passed a resolution supporting constitutional amendments to facilitate the establishment of state police in the country.
The speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, disclosed this to journalists in Gusau.
Moriki said the establishment of state police would complement the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Dauda Lawal in addressing insecurity in the state and across the country.
He expressed optimism that the state government would provide the framework and the support required to ensure the effective operation of the state police if established.
Moriki also clarified issues surrounding some lawmakers who were suspended from the Assembly, saying their suspension predated their purported defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In an exclusive interview with LEADERSHIP, the member representing Maru 2 Constituency, Hon. Salisu Faru, revealed that after due consultation with relevant stakeholders, the House decided to pass the bill to ensure effective services to the people of Zamfara, especially in the provision of security in agrarian areas.
Faru also lauded Governor Lawal for his deliberate strategies geared towards ending insecurity in Zamfara.
