Popular Nigerian indigenous rap artiste Olusegun Osaniyi, fondly known as Lord of Ajasa, is currently in an ecstatic mood, as he has become a citizen of the United States of America.
Sharing the news, the veteran rapper shared video clips, photographs, and Instagram stories on his page, #lordofajasa, on Wednesday, holding his American citizenship certificate. His post has elicited a congratulatory response from his colleagues and fans who thronged to his comment section to felicitate with him.
Music producer and Coded Tunes founder, Olumide Ogunade, popularly known as ID Cabasa, wrote, “Congratulations Lord Oshi.”
Lord of Ajasa replied, “Thanks Cabasa.”
His contemporary, singer Abolore Akande, popularly known as 9ice, also congratulated him, writing, “Congrats apase1👑🙌🙌🙌”
Lord of Ajasa responded, “Thanks Baalè.”
The CEO of Apashe Records is a native of Akure, Ondo State. He was given the name “the Lord of Flavour” (Ajasa is a Yoruba term for flavour) in his polytechnic days in Ondo State, where he majored in Quantity Survey. He raps primarily in the Yoruba Language.
“Ma yi lo” was his first track, which made him popular, and it came out in 2000. In the beginning of his career, he collaborated with 9ice, Olamide, and the late Da Grin, among other Nigerian singers.
Due to his health challenge, which was diagnosed as a peptic ulcer, he left the music industry, with the claim that he was into other businesses which required time to stabilise.
The development also revived conversations about Lord of Ajasa’s place in the history of indigenous Nigerian hip-hop, particularly his role in popularising Yoruba rap before the emergence of acts such as Dagrin, Olamide and Reminisce.
