American actor RJ Mitte, best known for playing Walter White Jr. in the hit television series Breaking Bad, has died at the age of 34.
His representatives announced his death on Monday, describing him as a beloved actor, philanthropist and passionate disability rights advocate.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” the statement read.
The representatives did not disclose the cause of death.
Brownsville Justice of the Peace Cyndi Hinojosa said Mitte died on Monday in Brownsville, Texas, where he had moved. Hinojosa confirmed that she declared him dead at 1:32 p.m., but said she could not disclose the cause of death.
Mitte rose to prominence through Breaking Bad, which premiered in January 2008. He played Walter White Jr., the teenage son of Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher who turns to producing methamphetamine.
The role became Mitte’s breakthrough performance and brought wider attention to his work as an actor.
Mitte, who had cerebral palsy, portrayed a character with the same condition in the series. Beyond acting, he became an advocate for people living with disabilities, using his public platform to promote greater representation and inclusion.
