The Movement Adebayo for President (MAP) has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his reported decision not to participate directly in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign tour ahead of the 2027 general election, urging Nigerians to consider Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Adewole Adebayo, as an alternative.
The group said presidential candidates should engage directly with voters and explain how they intend to address the country’s economic, security and governance challenges.
In a statement titled “Choosing Between President Tinubu and Citizen Adebayo: A Social Democratic Manifesto That Signposts National Redemption,” MAP urged Nigerians to assess candidates based on their policy proposals, governing philosophy and plans for national development.
It also expressed concern over the country’s economic and security challenges, calling on APC governors and party leaders to place national interests above political considerations.
MAP highlighted Adebayo’s manifesto, Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity, which it said outlines proposed measures to tackle poverty, strengthen national security and improve access to essential services.
The group questioned the reported decision by Tinubu to concentrate on governance while the APC Presidential Campaign Council handles his campaign activities, arguing that direct engagement with voters was important in the build-up to the election.
MAP said Adebayo’s manifesto identifies 12 priority areas, including national security, food security, electricity, affordable energy, employment and enterprise, education, healthcare, infrastructure, innovation, transparent governance, national unity and international relations.
According to the group, the document also outlines a four-year implementation framework intended to establish measurable targets and enable Nigerians to assess the performance of a potential Adebayo administration.
On the proposed first 100 days in office, MAP said the manifesto envisages the establishment of a Presidential Delivery and Performance Office to monitor government programmes and assess progress against stated objectives.
Other proposed measures include directing ministries, departments and agencies to implement the objectives of Chapter II of the 1999 Constitution, conducting baseline assessments of key sectors and introducing transparency mechanisms for public procurement and expenditure.
The framework also proposes federal-state delivery agreements and the publication of a presidential performance dashboard to enable citizens to track government activities.
For the first year, the manifesto proposes measures to improve security, stabilise essential services, expand agricultural production, strengthen domestic energy supply and initiate priority electricity and transport projects.
It also identifies youth skills development and employment programmes as part of efforts to widen economic opportunities.
For the second and third years, the plan envisages expanding industrial clusters and infrastructure projects, improving electricity distribution and investing in irrigation, food storage, processing, pharmaceutical production, technology, manufacturing, rail transport, broadband, housing and water supply.
The fourth year would focus on completing priority projects, strengthening successful programmes through permanent institutions and publishing audited performance reports.
MAP said the proposed end-of-term scorecard would provide a basis for assessing the administration’s performance against its commitments.
The group also highlighted social democracy, cooperative federalism, evidence-based governance, public-private sector collaboration and citizen participation as central elements of Adebayo’s proposed governing philosophy.
It said Chapter II of the 1999 Constitution, which contains the Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of State Policy, would guide the proposed administration’s approach to governance.
MAP further identified transparency, accountability and the provision of basic necessities as key components of the manifesto.
The group urged Nigerians to examine the document and compare the policy commitments of presidential candidates before making their choices in the 2027 election.
It encouraged interested citizens to obtain copies of the manifesto by contacting [email protected].
The statement was signed by the Movement Adebayo for President (MAP), which uses the slogan, “The Roadmap to a New Nigeria.”
