2027: Why Wike, Fubara Camps Will Continue To Meet -Rainbow Coalition

The Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State, has declared that the meetings between the camps of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara, will continue because of the efforts to consolidate ahead of the 2027 general election in the state.

This is as the absence of the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Chief Tony Okocha, in thd already held two meetings between the two camps continue to raise concerns amongst stakeholders in the state.

Among those who attended the last meeting held at the governor’s private residence in Port Harcourt, was his former Chief of Staff, Hon. Edison Ehie, who has been off the political radar for something now.

Also in attendance were former representative of Rivers East Senatorial District, Senator George Sekibo and the Chairman, Rainbow Coalition Reconciliation Committee, Senator Magnus Abe.

Others were the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state, Hon. Kingsly Chinda.

Also in attendance were former Attorney General of Rivers State, Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka; former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron and other stakeholders.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt, spokesman of Rainbow Coalition in the state, Hon. Chibike Ikenga, said the constant meetings were to fame-up arrangements and agreements ahead of the 2027 elections in the state.

“The constant meetings are very important to fame-up arrangements and agreements. You know that politics is about engagement with the people, supporters, leadership at the various levels.

“That is what you are seeing and that is to show that everything  is working well. Plans are there because elections are here in the next few weeks, there is the need for consistent and constant meetings, engagements and consultation to fame-up all the arrangements for greater output, especially the election victory.”

Also speaking with our Correspondent, Chief Oby Ndukwe, a political ally of the APC governorship candidate in the state, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, wondered why people think that there were Division within the Rainbow Coalition.

Ndukwe said: “I don’t understand why people think that all is not well with Rainbow Coalition. First of all, Rainbow Coalition had nothing to do with Fubara initially, but on his own, after this reconciliation, he now endorsed OK Chinda and President Tinubu as his candidates and called on all his supporters and those who love him to follow suit.

“Of course, the crack within the Wike political family which Fubara belongs to was something that stretched for over two years. So, you don’t expect that meetings the will have will be a one off thing. Definitely, there will be concessions that will be made, then, there will be an appraisal of issues and they will  take it to a point where concessions will be made.

“Don’t forget that about three House of Assembly members have not been sitting with the Martin Amaewhule-led  lawmakers. Of course, those are some of the things that are expected to be discussed.

“Personally, I have always said there is this need for them to return to the House of Assembly and that they should be adequately compensated if they didn’t get anything from Fubara, which I doubt.

“From the reports I had, all of them from the Fubara side were adequately compensated or taken care of by the governor. It is not something that these things will just heal in a run-off meeting. There will be issues. Even when cracks in relationships and marriages, sometimes, it requires several family meetings or church meetings to ensure these issues are resolved.

“You must make sure you get down to the root of the problem. If though it is not to be a blame-game thing, they have to check who did what. So, for me, what they are doing mature enough and we are going into an election.”
