The Director of the Kaduna International Film Festival (KADIFF), Israel Kashim Audu, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran Nollywood actor Francis Duru, describing his passing as a personal loss and a major blow to the creative industry.
Duru passed away recently on Friday, 22 October 2026, following a brief illness at the age of 57.
Reacting to the news, Audu highlighted Duru’s roles in foundational Nollywood projects, including his performance in the 1995 film Rattlesnake, as well as his commitment to developing platforms for younger filmmakers.
He noted that Duru was a consistent supporter of KADIFF, frequently travelling to Kaduna to participate in the festival and mentor emerging talent regardless of financial incentives.
“Francis was not merely a guest at our festival; he was a genuine friend of the vision, a consistent supporter of our mission, and one of those who understood the importance of building platforms that bring creative professionals together,” Audu said. “With or without money, Francis would always find a way to make his journey to Kaduna for KADIFF.”
Audu added that Duru’s humility, dedication, and support played a key role in strengthening the festival’s community over the years.
