2027: Obasanjo’s Son Declares Support for Tinubu’s Re-election

Olujuwon Obasanjo, son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general election.

Olujuwon made his position known after joining the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement as Special Adviser on Political Affairs.

He announced his decision during a visit to the movement’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, where he met with its National Coordinator, Sunday Asuku, and other members of the organisation.

The visit provided an opportunity for him to understand the group’s activities, leadership structure and mobilisation strategy.

He was also taken around the facility on a guided tour to familiarise himself with its operations and ongoing programmes.

Speaking during the visit, Olujuwon described his appointment as an honour and a privilege.

He praised the movement for its grassroots activities, community engagement and efforts to promote the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration.

He explained that he had been following the organisation’s activities before accepting the appointment.

According to him, its approach to political mobilisation and engagement with communities influenced his decision to become part of the movement.

The former president’s son said he was prepared to contribute his experience and political knowledge towards advancing the organisation’s objectives, particularly its efforts to mobilise support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

He also called on Nigerians, especially young people, to support the President, arguing that continuity would allow the administration to sustain its ongoing policies and reforms.

Olujuwon said, “President Tinubu has started on a good note, making it necessary for Nigerians, particularly young people, to join hands to sustain the ongoing reforms and ensure continuity in governance.

“Again, you will notice that the country has made progress in areas including salary payments, infrastructure development and investment opportunities. And I think the gains recorded should be sustained.”

He maintained that the administration needed sustained public support to consolidate its achievements and deliver more benefits to Nigerians.

According to him, the progress recorded in areas such as infrastructure, salary payments and investment opportunities should not be discontinued.

He expressed confidence that another term for Tinubu would provide an opportunity for the government to build on its existing programmes and pursue additional development initiatives.

Olujuwon also spoke about his political background, revealing that he had been a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) since 2014.

Obasanjo’s son joins ‘Tinubu Must Stay’ movement

His disclosure is significant given his family background and the different political positions that members of the Obasanjo family may hold.

His father, Olusegun Obasanjo, served as Nigeria’s civilian president between 1999 and 2007 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

However, Olujuwon maintained that members of his family were allowed to make independent political decisions without disagreements or hostility over their choices.

He said his family “allows members to hold independent political views and pursue our political interests without animosity.”

His remarks suggest that his decision to support Tinubu is a personal political choice and should not necessarily be interpreted as a position taken by his father or other members of the family.

Welcoming him into the organisation, Asuku expressed confidence that Olujuwon’s involvement would strengthen the movement’s political activities and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the next general election.

The national coordinator described him as an experienced political figure whose understanding of governance and political organisation would be valuable to the group’s operations.

He said, “We are certain his experience and understanding of political mobilisation would strengthen the movement and advance its activities across the country.”

Asuku added that the organisation was pleased with Olujuwon’s decision to join its ranks.

He expressed optimism that his appointment would bring additional experience and direction to the group’s activities as it expands its reach across different parts of the country.

The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement is focused on grassroots mobilisation and promoting the Tinubu administration through community engagement.

Its activities are expected to form part of the wider efforts by supporters of the President to build political support ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a related development, POLITICS NIGERIA earlier reported that Obasanjo’s son had also joined the Tinubu Must Stay Movement.

This is another group mobilising support for the President’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general election.
