Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State will swear in Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of the state today.
According to a Facebook post by Ibrahim Adam, Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, the ceremony is scheduled to take place at 11:00 am at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.
The swearing-in comes after the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who stepped down on 27 March 2026 after falling out with Governor Yusuf and his refusal to decamp with him to the APC from NNPP.
His resignation followed corruption allegations and an impeachment notice by the Kano State House of Assembly, though he maintained that stepping aside was not an admission of wrongdoing.

Garo, a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under the administration of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, was last week confirmed by the state House of Assembly.
He was also the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections.
Governor Yusuf has maintained that the choice of Garo as his deputy was a strategic move to strengthen political alliances and consolidate support across the state.
