Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has appealed to the Nigerian Military for the release of social critic and influencer Justice Crack.
The Defence Headquarters reportedly arrested Justice Crack for allegedly inciting soldiers to question the legitimacy of their commanders. While the military authorities have defended the arrest, citing national security and the need to maintain discipline within the ranks, Jegede is calling for a more temperate approach.
In a statement shared on her social media platforms, the actress acknowledged that justice may have crossed a line but urged the authorities to show mercy.
“I have come to understand that he has done wrong. I am not justifying his actions, but I am pleading with the military to look at him with a fatherly eye and release him,” Jegede stated.
The actress noted that while the military has a duty to protect its integrity, the influence of social media figures often stems from passion rather than malice. She urged the authorities to consider an administrative warning or re-education rather than prolonged detention.
The Defence Headquarters had earlier clarified that Justice Crack was not merely amplifying complaints from the frontline, but was actively urging troops to rebel against the military leadership.
As at the time of this report, the military has not officially responded to the actress’s plea.
