El-Rufai’s Son, Bello Dumps APC For ADC As 4 Others Switch Parties

Son of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai, Bello El-Rufai, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The younger El-Rufai, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, had remained in the APC several months after his father dumped the ruling party, first for the SDP and later for the ADC.

Four other members of the House also switched parties in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.

They include Hon. Umar Ajilo and Suleiman Richifa, both of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who defected to the ADC.

Others are Hon. Kamilu Ado (ADC, Kano) and Joshua Obika (APC, Abuja North), who joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The lawmakers, in separate letters read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen during plenary, cited internal crises and uncertainty in their former parties as reasons for their decisions.

With the latest defections, the APC’s membership in the House dropped by one to 283 members, while the PDP’s figure declined to 27. The ADC gained three lawmakers, increasing its membership to nine, while the NDC gained two additional members, raising its total to 19.
