2027: Oshiomhole Says Opposition Rift Strengthening APC

The senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has stated that internal disagreements among opposition politicians could pave the way for the ruling All Progressives Congress to maintain control in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Wednesday, Oshiomhole claimed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is indirectly helping the APC by openly criticising fellow opposition figure Peter Obi.

The former Edo State governor also pointed to the ongoing verbal exchanges between Obi and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, saying the disputes within the opposition camp would ultimately benefit the APC during the 2027 elections.

“You mean that APC would be worried about which of the parties now… ADC? I saw Atiku. Atiku is now our best campaign manager because he is attacking Obi, and I see Obi attacking Amaechi. I see Amaechi say Obi is a regional player, Atiku is a regional player, and he is the only national player, but he didn’t tell us what his ward unit looks like,” Oshiomhole remarked.

The senator said he was convinced that opposition parties would suffer a heavy defeat in 2027, regardless of any alliance they may form ahead of the elections.

He also challenged opposition figures to present Nigerians with alternative policies and clearly explain which of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms they intend to cancel or replace if elected.

“So, the opposition can have their dreams, but they will be defeated flatly because nobody believes them. They have to speak to the new policies that they would reverse, whether they would reverse taxation, reverse fuel subsidy removal, student loans, or reverse any of those bold decisions that President Tinubu has taken,” he said.

Oshiomhole further alleged that opposition leaders are driven mainly by their ambition to gain political power rather than by any shared policy direction.

He maintained that Tinubu had taken difficult but necessary steps aimed at restructuring and revitalising the Nigerian economy through far-reaching reforms.
