Afro-House Singer Niniola Loses Husband

Nigerian afro-house singer, Niniola Apata, has announced the death of her husband, Michael Ndika, in a series of emotional posts shared on her Instagram story in the early hours of Wednesday.

Ndika, who was the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform focused on afro-house and contemporary African music, died under circumstances that were yet to be disclosed as of press time.

The Grammy-nominated singer, known for keeping her private life away from public scrutiny, expressed her grief in brief but emotional messages accompanied by photos of herself and her late husband.

“God took him,” she wrote in one of the posts.

In another, the 39-year-old singer and sister fellow singer Teniola Apata, stated plainly, “My husband died.”

A third post read, “God took him. 13 years. 13 f***ing years,” suggesting the couple had been together for over a decade.

LEADERSHIP reports that Niniola rose to fame after emerging as one of the top contestants on the 2013 edition of Project Fame West Africa. Since then, she has established herself as one of Nigeria’s leading afro-house artistes with a string of successful releases and international recognition.

Her 2017 hit single, “Maradona”, gained widespread acclaim and attracted attention from global music stars, including DJ Snake, Drake, Timbaland and Beyoncé.
