Bashir el-Rufai, the son of the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai, has announced the end of his marriage to his first wife, Halima Nwakaego Kazaure.
The couple married in November 2020 during a traditional wedding ceremony in Abuja.
Bashir shared the news of his divorce on the social media platform X while interacting with his followers. The discussion started after he publicly complimented another female user on the platform. When followers questioned his marital status, he confirmed that he was no longer married and was already planning a new wedding.
He stated that the marriage ended due to age and behavioural differences, adding that he wanted to move away from modern relationship issues.
According to Bashir, his new bride-to-be is from the Nupe ethnic group in Bida, Niger State. He expressed great satisfaction with his new relationship, stating that Nupe women show exceptional care and respect to their husbands.
“Yes, she’s from Bida, and yes, I divorced my first wife. The difference is clear, I had no clue Nupe women treat their husbands like emperors. Loving it.”
He further claimed that he has never pursued women or initiated marriage talks in his past relationships. According to him, his former wife was the one who proposed marriage to him.
“I don’t toast, babes. Never have. It’s not even about bragging rights or pride. Neither have I ever used money in exchange for companionship. Sometimes it’s even years later that I discover one babe or another liked me. I can’t tell. They make the first move. I also never asked a girl to marry me. Even my 1st she was the one who proposed.”
The former governor’s son concluded his posts by expressing his hope to welcome a daughter later in the year.
