Artist Alexandra Grant has opened up about what makes her long-running relationship with actor Keanu Reeves work, and it all comes down to giving each other space to create.
Speaking to People, the 53-year-old said the couple make a point of respecting each other’s creative processes, whether that’s on a film set or in the art studio. “You want always to be respectful and leave the other person to bake their cake,” she said.
Grant described Reeves, 61, as thoughtful and careful with feedback whenever he visits her at work, a quality she says she mirrors in return. For her, the foundation of a healthy partnership is knowing when to step back and let your other half “dive deep” into their craft, even if that means working quietly or independently.
Beyond that, Grant says the pair are bonded by a shared belief in the integrity of each project they take on. “Every project has its own autonomy,” she explained, noting that she has personally experienced life alongside some of Reeves’ most iconic roles. “I’ve lived with John Wick, I’ve lived with Neo,” she said, referencing his work in the John Wick franchise and The Matrix series.
Grant and Reeves first went public as a couple in 2019 at the LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles.
