Army Ambush Foils Kidnap Operation, Terrorist Killed In Lokoja

Troops of the 12 Brigade, operating under the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, have foiled a planned kidnapping operation and neutralised a suspected terrorist during an ambush in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The operation, conducted on May 30, 2026, followed credible intelligence indicating that terrorists were planning coordinated kidnappings in Jakura II Community.

According to Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations for the 12 Brigade, troops swiftly mobilised and took strategic positions along the Old Obajana–Tajimi Road, where they mounted an ambush on a suspected crossing point used by the criminals.

“During the operation, troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them with effective fire. Following the firefight, one terrorist was neutralised, while other members of the criminal group fled the scene with suspected gunshot wounds,” he said.

The Army spokesman disclosed that a subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, five magazines, 70 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one bandolier, and several mobile phones.

He said the recovered items confirmed the group’s involvement in kidnapping activities within the area.

Abdullahi added that the operation demonstrated the 12 Brigade’s continued commitment to sustained offensive action against terrorists and other criminal elements threatening peace in the state.

He noted that troops are currently continuing exploitation operations to track down fleeing suspects and dismantle their networks.

The Commander of the 12 Brigade, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, commended the troops for their professionalism and combat efficiency, reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s resolve to maintain pressure on criminal gangs.

He also urged residents to continue providing timely and actionable intelligence to security agencies to enhance ongoing efforts to secure lives and property.
