The political atmosphere in Ebonyi State recorded another major shake-up on Sunday as the Commissioner for Project Monitoring, Mr Felix Igboke, resigned from the state cabinet and dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Igboke announced his decision during a PDP gathering in Isu, Onicha Local Government Area, where he was received by party leaders, executives and supporters.
The former commissioner said he joined the opposition party alongside more than 10,000 supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Describing the move as a return to his political roots, Igboke said the PDP was the platform that gave him his first opportunity to serve the people.
According to him, he had previously served as a councillor, development centre coordinator and chairman of Onicha Local Government Area under the party before moving to the APC.
“I am happy to return to the political platform that built me. I served as a councillor, development centre coordinator and chairman of Onicha Local Government Area under the same party before I joined the APC,” he said.
The former commissioner explained that his decision was driven by the desire to identify with a platform that would better protect the interests of the people and promote inclusive development across Ebonyi State.
He also expressed appreciation to the PDP leadership in the state, particularly the party’s governorship candidate, Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma-Odii, whom he described as “the incoming governor.”
Receiving the defectors, Ebonyi PDP Chairman, Mr Chukwuma Igwe, said Igboke’s return had further strengthened the party’s position ahead of the next election cycle.
According to him, the arrival of thousands of new members reflects growing confidence in the PDP and signals a shift in the state’s political landscape. He maintained that the party had rebuilt its structures across the state and was preparing to reclaim power in 2027.
Also speaking, the PDP candidate for the Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 elections, Mr Eni-Uduma Chima, said the opposition party was witnessing increasing support in many parts of Ebonyi.
He urged members to remain united and continue expanding the party’s grassroots network, expressing confidence that the growing support would translate into electoral victories.
The event was attended by party faithful, community leaders and supporters from different parts of the state, many of whom pledged to work for the PDP’s success in coming elections.
