Nigerian actress and filmmaker, Toyin Abraham, has spoken about the financial challenges she faced in the early years of her Nollywood career. She revealed that success did not come quickly despite joining the industry in 2001.
In a recent video, the actress said she only began earning significant income about eight years ago, more than a decade after starting her journey in film.
She said:
“I just started making money 8 years ago, and I’ve been in the film industry since 2001. Back then, we acted and got peanuts, but we did it just to survive.”
In the early 2000s, many actors worked long hours for little pay. Most took roles simply to earn a living rather than make a profit.
Today, Toyin Abraham is one of Nollywood’s biggest stars and producers. She is known for successful films including ‘Alakada: Bad and Boujee’ and ‘Oversabi Auntyz ’.
