NYSC Makes NERD Clearance Mandatory For Prospetive Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that prospective corps members will no longer be mobilised for national service without obtaining clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD), as it tightens its verification process ahead of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ mobilisation exercise.

The scheme disclosed the new requirement in a public notice posted on its official X account on Monday, urging all prospective corps members (PCMs) to complete the clearance process early to avoid delays in their mobilisation.

According to the NYSC, NERD clearance has become a mandatory prerequisite for participation in the national service programme.

“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the scheme stated.

Reinforcing the directive, the NYSC added, “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC.”

Although the agency did not provide further details on the clearance procedure, the directive signals a stricter verification process as preparations intensify for the next orientation exercise.

The latest advisory comes shortly after the NYSC announced the mobilisation of prospective corps members for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year, calling on tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to complete all registration and documentation processes ahead of the orientation camps.

It also follows a recent travel advisory issued by the scheme, warning prospective corps members against embarking on night journeys to orientation camps due to security concerns.

The NYSC advised PCMs to break their trips whenever necessary and spend the night in safe locations or designated military and other security formations where available, rather than travel after dark.

The twin advisories underscore the scheme’s efforts to strengthen the credibility of its mobilisation process while enhancing the safety of prospective corps members amid persistent security challenges on Nigerian highways.

With mobilisation activities now underway, the NYSC urged all eligible graduates to complete every required registration and verification process, including the newly emphasised NERD clearance, before reporting to their respective orientation camps.
