President Bola Tinubu has commissioned two newly completed collector roads in Abuja’s Mabushi District, describing the projects as part of his administration’s commitment to improving transportation, reducing traffic congestion, and driving economic growth in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The newly inaugurated Collector Roads 01 and 02 link the Mabushi Bus Terminal to Ahmadu Bello Way, providing better access within the district and neighbouring parts of the capital.
Represented at the inauguration by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu said the roads would significantly improve connectivity, shorten travel time, and enhance the movement of residents and businesses.
“We are not just opening two roads. We are opening up Abuja. We are connecting people to opportunity and cutting hours of waste from daily life,” the President said.
He noted that residents had endured years of traffic gridlock and poor road access, saying the new infrastructure would transform mobility in the area.
“For many years, movement in this part of the capital was a struggle. Traffic bottlenecks. Needless detours. Time lost that should have been spent at work, at school or with family. Today, that changes,” he said.
Tinubu stressed that improved road infrastructure would boost commercial activities, strengthen security, and make transportation more efficient across the FCT.
“When roads connect, businesses grow. When movement is easy, productivity rises. When travel is safe, citizens are free. That is the Renewed Hope Agenda at work,” he added.
The President also appealed to residents to safeguard public infrastructure, while acknowledging the inconvenience caused during the construction period.
Tinubu praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for driving infrastructure development across Abuja.
“I gave you a simple charge: ‘Make Abuja work for all.’ You took it and ran with it. From satellite towns to the city centre, you are turning blueprints into roads people can drive on today,” he said.
In his remarks, Wike said the inauguration was part of a 31-day project commissioning programme organised to commemorate the Tinubu administration’s third anniversary, noting that infrastructure projects are ongoing in both the city centre and satellite communities.
According to the minister, the new roads have already spurred property development in Mabushi by attracting private investors to the district.
“Look at this road and look at the houses around it. Without this road, these houses would not have come up. Investors are coming because infrastructure has arrived,” Wike said.
He dismissed claims that road projects do not directly improve the lives of residents, insisting that quality infrastructure creates broader economic opportunities.
“People used to say, ‘We cannot eat roads.’ Today, they can see what roads can do. Roads attract investment, create jobs, increase property values and stimulate economic development,” he stated.
Also speaking at the event, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, said the administration’s infrastructure drive was transforming Abuja’s landscape and urged residents to protect public facilities.
