Opeyemi Sparks Debate After Calling Ofe Owerri Nigeria’s Richest Igbo Soup

A simple food craving has turned into a full-blown soup war on social media.

Popular food critic Opeyemi Oluwatobi Frederick Famakin took a trip to Imo State to satisfy his craving for Igbo cuisine, stopping at Cruise with Joe’s Josephs Pot restaurant, where he declared Ofe Owerri as “the best and richest Igbo soup in Nigeria.”

The verdict immediately got Nigerians talking.

While many agreed with him, others, especially from Anambra, argued that Ofe Onugbu (bitterleaf soup) deserves the crown. Not to be left out, Abia natives also stepped into the conversation, championing their own versions of traditional soups.

The debate quickly turned into a celebration of Igbo cuisine, with food lovers sharing recipes and passionate arguments over which soup truly reigns supreme.

One thing everyone agreed on, however, is that when it comes to rich, flavour-packed soups, the East is not short of contenders.
